Seventh Grade Reflection

When I first arrived in August, I expected seventh grade to be very difficult.i imagined lots of homework, essays and projects… And rude teachers that yell at you even if you sneeze. I soon realized that seventh grade is a breeze. So far the year has gone by with a moderate amount of homework, projects and essays. Our teaches to fun, hands on activities and are super nice!
By October my life was flying by and I was making lots of friends in my classes. If i didn’t have some of the classes I have, I would not have met some of my best friends.
After a while, I figured out that it helps to be relaxed and not stressed before a test, otherwise you will focus on the future and getting a bad grade instead of the present and trying your best. Also I noted that if you always do your work, you and your teacher won’t have any problems.
During seventh grade I learned lots of tricks for studying…. Make a song out of it, summarize it, quizlet, ect… I also learned how to make friends faster. For one, don’t be rude to anyone… And be kind and outgoing. I also learned about Texas history thanks to my Texas history class.
As the year comes to a close, I am sad to leave all the teachers I have come to admire, and if I had to do this all over again I would defiantly study more often.
My advice to next years seventh graders would be to respect your teachers. Don’t interrupt them and be respectful in class or else you will have a long, long year.

Animal Farm

This year my class is reading the novel Animal Farm. In the story, animals on a farm represent political leaders of The Solviet Union.
Old Major, the leader, has a strange dream that he announces to the entire farm. It is of an uprising of the animals. He explains to the others that humans are the enemy and that no animal should ever befriend one. Old major later dies, before his dream becomes reality.
The other animals are mistreated and malnourished. Eventually they can bear it no longer, they break in and steal food. Mr.Jones, the farm owner, attempts to stop them and by doing so he only angers them more. The animals start a revolution. For a long while, they succeeded in keeping Mr.Jones off of the farm while that maintain it, but he come back to try and take over the farm again.
Thats it for now, I’ll update as soon as I’m finished.

Favorite Poem

Take this kiss upon the brow!
And, in parting from you now,
Thus much let me avow-
You are not wrong, who deem
That my days have been a dream;
Yet if hope has flown away
In a night, or in a day,
In a vision, or in none,
Is it therefore the less gone?
All that we see or seem
Is but a dream within a dream.

I stand amid the roar
Of a surf-tormented shore,
And I hold within my hand
Grains of the golden sand-
How few! yet how they creep
Through my fingers to the deep,
While I weep- while I weep!
O God! can I not grasp
Them with a tighter clasp?
O God! can I not save
One from the pitiless wave?
Is all that we see or seem
But a dream within a dream?

Edgar Allan Poe

I really like this poem because it has a lot of rhyming and imagery…. “stand amid the roar Of a surf-tormented shore, And I hold within my hand Grains of the golden sand-“

Cozy Coupe

I remember being three or four years old and as soon as I was awake, I practically lived in my cozy coupe. Although mine didn’t have the creepy eyes and smile… it was just as much fun. I would ride up and down our coldasac and on the slope in our front yard.
My twin and I would race to see who could get to the bottom of our driveway first. I miss being a kid and not having to worry about anything but someone taking your toys, but childhood doesn’t last forever and I will always have memory’s.
Cozy Coupes are still made today, but they are a little more “blinged out” than they used to be with gas caps, eyes, a smile, and a licence plate. I hope Cozy Coupes will still be made when I am an adult so I can give that memory to my kids.

Digital Footprint Videos

I preferred the 2nd video over the 1st because it was a lot more descriptive, detailed and clear to the point. It explained what a digital footprint was and the effect it has on your life. It also gave an example from reality.
On the other hand, video #1 explained all the ways your left behind personal information can be used or copied. It also told you how people can look at what you are doing and track you.

Austin, Texas

Austin is a great place to live. It has lots of restaurants, so you can try new things all the time. Austin is also the music capital of the world.
Austin city limits, south by southwest, blues on the green… There are lots of places to go and things to do.
Also, if you like the city, Austin has lots of apartments and houses close to and in the city. On the contrary, if your not too enthusiastic about city life, there are suburbs everywhere with nice houses and lots.
Therefore, Austin is a wonderful place to live.

Guided Writing (beginning of the year)

Having an older sister in college

Having an older sister in college is pretty cool because you get to go visit campus a lot and you get to see what a dorm looks like. My sisters dorm is about the size of my room, which is pretty small, except it has two twin beds, two desks with bookshelves, a sink, two sets of drawers and a walk in closet. Plus you can get a refrigerator/microwave combo set.
We had a lot of fun helping her move in because we got to go exploring all around the Baylor University campus.

Expository Writing

“Why couldn’t we have taken a plane!” We all whined during our car ride to Colorado. Airports help with travel a lot.

Airports make travel a lot faster. For instance, if you wanted to visit Germany and there was no Airport, you would have to drive to a port… Then get on a boat… Then when you get there you would have to drive to where you wanted to go. Imagine how long that would take……….Ugh. A boat ride across the Atlantic Ocean would take days, but a plane ride would only take a couple of hours.

Also, Airports have increased security to keep everyone safe and make sure there aren’t any mishaps or accidents. This is the reason no one is let into the boarding areas without going past security, also you can’t bring anything sharp on board (that’s the danger part). Take it from me who’s been on an 18 hour car ride, airports are very, very useful.

Sometimes airplanes do have mishaps, and you can get snowed in… But if it saves you from loud bickering and bathroom stops……….. It’s defiantly worth it.

Concrete language

Winter
The swirling snowflakes, each one unique, landed lightly on my tounge. The bitter, yet refreshing, feel of the frigid air. The never ending gray sky’s, and the cold-fridgid-stinging snow. So deceiving…….. You take one look and you think to yourself, ” wow, that looks really soft…. Like a cloud!” Then you reach out and touch it.
It’s hard………..rock hard.
It melted then froze back together forming one big ice sheet covering everything. Like most children, I decided I would run around and break up the ice. I had fun until about 3 hours after that when It all started to melt away, flooding the yard and making it mushy-like pancakes after they absorbed too much syrup.

Snow

Glittering, white,
Powdery softness,
Drifting slowly from the sky,
Landing like a feather,
Upon the ground,
Swallowed by the millions of others.
They stay for a while,
Then wither away one by one,
Slowly revealing the spring,
That lies hidden beneath the snow
